The unique quality of Nupafeed MAH Magnesium Horse Calmer lays in the way it is refined. The German Pharmaceutical company, Verla-Pharm, pioneered a unique method of refining magnesium to create Magnesium aspartate-hydrochloride - MAH®.
A completely different and superior grade of magnesium to that used in other products, MAH is exclusive to Nupafeed. Verla-Pharm has been supplying the medical industry with their highly acclaimed products since 1949, and for the animal market for the past 30 years.
Nupafeed MAH magnesium does not contain L-Tryptophan, herbs or any ingredient that may compromise performance. Our goal is to allow your horse to function normally, preventing stress related behaviour rather than masking behavior with an artificial calm.
All animals need to have the correct balance of calcium and magnesium. When a horse is highly strung or becomes stressed, anxious, nervous or excited, they burn off magnesium. This allows calcium to overload muscle and nerve cells causing a rise in the realease of stress hormones and excitatory chemicals. This can cause stress, erratic behaviour, aggression and/or muscle tension.
MAH is ideal for any stress related behaviour, for horses in any discipline of competition, those on box rest, returning to work, competition, foal/youngster preparation for the sales, stallions, pregnant/lactating mares.
Nupafeed MAH Liquid Horse Calmer uses a water soluble, complex, pure, amino magnesium which is able to enter the horses’ system very efficiently and absorb into tissue (magnesium levels in the blood are a poor measure of true magnesium status). Our liquid maintains the healthy balance of calcium and magnesium to keep the horse on an even keel, but without compromising performance.
MAH magnesium has been developed not only for absorption, but to prevent interference with the body’s natural balancing mechanisms. Other forms of magnesium can disrupt pH and ion balance. Because of its unique composition, MAH avoids interference with absorption of other minerals and does not disturb pH balances.

| Instructions for use | MAH is a clear, odourless liquid which you can add to your horse's hard feed or syringe directly into their mouth. When needed as a calmer, horses must first have a loading amount; this is to replace their magnesium faster than they are using it each day so that you can correct the balance in their body in order to achieve a result. The loading amount for a horse is 50ml three times daily. If it is not possible to feed three times a day then this can be given as 75ml twice daily. Ponies require a smaller loading amount. Normally horses require between 3-10 days on the loading amount, most often around 5 days. Very sharp horses may take longer. Quieter horses or those with newly arisen problems usually improve more quickly. Once your horse has settled, you can then find an appropriate daily maintenance amount. We recommend that you cut back gradually so that you can find a level of MAH that suits your horse. Requirement can be very variable depending on how much stress each horse is experiencing, but the maintenance level will be approximately 5ml per 100kg per day, so 25ml for a 500kg horse for example. This is normally given once daily. You can adjust the amount and feeding intervals according to requirement; you may want to increase the level and give twice daily for a period of box rest for example. Please note that the initial loading amount will mean that your first 1ltr will be used quickly. |
